9th Edition? Comes after 8th but before 10th. It's not known how much will carry over into 9th Edition, although random guessing varies from "this is mostly 9e" to "Fantasy is shut down in favor of 40k and Lord of the Rings". Some rumors have it that the Undead Army might be a permanent thing and the Tomb Kings/Vampire Counts split will be no more. Chaos players get the same, with Beastmen, Daemons and Warriors becoming one army. From what we can tell elves are about to get the same treatment.
Mounts- It is fairly likely that mounts and their riders will have a combined profile, since that has become the norm for mounted characters throughout the End Times. The only exception to this so far is Malhandir and Tyrion, but that's likely because Tyrion cannot be removed from Malhandir like Karl Franz could be with Deathclaw. With the typical care GW shows towards balancing rules, this leads to some rather odd results. For example, the attacks of Karl Franz and Deathclaw combined ALL use Ghal Maraz (maybe he hands it to Deathclaw after he's done with it?), and characters with big mounts now count as Monsters, which means that Tamurkhan's possess attack, or any other abilities that only work on infantry can no longer affect mounted guys. Even stranger, abilities that only affect the mount, like the spell Traitor-Kin, still affect the combined profile models, who hit themselves with their full Attacks and Strength (though not equipment).
With the leaks from the fifth book it seems Games Workshop is going to implement considerable reforms for the game, first off things indicate future editions will not demand such a large investment to start a WFB army as some people has commented on blogs the main reason for changing the game format was, according to them, the fact Warhammer Fantasy Battle was not selling good enough to sustain the current gameplay model, in fact, it seems at this point Gotrek & Felix were the only branch of the franchise which justified any investment, which is quite sad for a company whose main focus is game models instead of novels. Rumours posted in sites like Faeit 212 indicate the format will switch to skirmish mode with round bases.
Fluffwise, the whole setting is completely gone, with some mysterious figure floating in the void making a new world; most bets are on Sigmar, Settra, Archaon, or Nagash, although what is clear is that this figure no longer has any relation with the Chaos Gods as they ignored him, so either Sigmar managed to survive, Archaon decided to give the back to the Chaos Gods as they may have forsaken him, or either Nagash or Settra may try to start a world without the interference of Chaos. Both Lizardmen and Skaven seem to have managed to escape the destruction of the Old World, the former ones through space the latter ones through the warp, most probably to the realm of the Horned Rat, remains to be seen if they will make contact with the new world but given how both of them are quite more original themed than most other armies surely they may stay around, so, don't throw away your lizards, and rejoice for they canonically survived the End Times. Some theorize that the Lizardmen that remain become the new Old Ones, or the Old Ones of 40k. As Skarsnik was not mentioned at all in End Times after Thanquol, it's theorized he and his forces survived and become the next group of greenskins. Remains to be seen how other factions may appear into the new world.
Finally, there is a chance that everything was a dream from, say, Aliathra, which may force everyone to start making changes to their policies and kingdoms, hereby resetting the story without the need to make Chaos victory an absolute while keeping the parts of the event that sold, in the only sure thing is that we will have very interesting months with lots of novelties so stay tuned.
